Chedorlaomer was a descendant of Shem who was the present Melchizedek, so he blessed Abram because Abram was also a descendant of Shem, so by killing Chedorlaomer, Abram started a family feud, so Shem who was the present Melchizedek (preacher of righteousness or king of the most high) made a peace treaty with bread and wine and Abram gave him a 10th of the spoils, so in all actuality, Chedorlaomer was next in line for the Melchizedek priesthood order, but he rebelled against the order as Psalm gives the backstory and how Shem blessed Abram to carry on the order

Melchizedek (without mother or father or beginning of days or end of days: this meant that this priesthood wasn't in the Levitical priesthood genealogy) Ephesians 2 (forever in Spirit). This is why Daniel describes Jesus as the ancient of days, referring to being without end or beginning. This is also why the Bible calls Jesus the first and the last, the beginning and the end, the alpha and omega. This is why the book of Hebrews says Jesus is a priest forever, referring to without beginning or ending. This is why the Bible says we are a royal priesthood or king-priest (he has made us kings and priests unto God). Kingdom of priests, priests in our area of expertise. Priests in our kingdom, our 7 mountain kingdom in which we rule over one of the 7 aspects of life. We are the righteousness of God in Christ, his righteous cause which was to redeem us from the fall. This is why we are baptized in Jesus's name. We are putting on the righteousness of God, which enables us to be priests to God because we have put on the name of Jesus who is a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. Priesthood is transferred through immersion/baptism and an oath; this is why God spoke over Jesus after his baptism. It was sealed when Caiaphas ripped his clothes (the oath spoken about in Leviticus 5:1), but Caiaphas didn't die, Jesus died in his place. Jesus was the king through his genealogy and became high priest through baptismal transference by John and became Melchizedek or king-priest and when we are baptized in his name, we put on Christ and that same priesthood and this is why we can say that we are kings and priests or a royal priesthood

The reason Abraham had to give tithes to Melchizedek was because he accidentally killed the next person in line to be Melchizedek, therefore the current Melchizedek had to bless him to make atonement.
