John the Baptist consecrated Jesus as an apostle. Jesus consecrated his disciples as apostles. The apostles consecrated Paul as an apostle and another disciple to be an apostle to take the place of Judas. The fivefold ministry is the makeup of the character of Christ. Each Christian has one of these gifts even though they might not be consecrated to full ministry, they still carry out certain aspects of one of the fivefold offices. Just like a person may have the gift of prophecy, word of knowledge, discerning of spirits, but may not be in the office of a prophet, someone can have the gift of administration, oversight and the like, but may not be in the office of an apostle. Prophets and Apostles are offices still in operation today, but not everyone is called to specifically be in those or the other 3 offices.
