No we are not perfect, but we are the righteousness of God in Christ. We put on the righteousness of Christ by studying his word and letting it transform our lives. This is how Christ prefects us with his righteousness. We are transformed by being changed from faith to faith, image to image and glory to glory. Christ is making us righteous by studying his word until it transforms our minds so we can obey the word. The process of becoming the righteousness of God in Christ is justification (he calls us righteous/ him speaking righteousness over us), sanctification (we study his word which transforms our minds so we will be able to obey his word/ his word coming to pass) and glorification (him prefecting us and giving us a new body when he returns).
