I think Satan is a principality. The reason is even Michael was cautious when dealing with him about Moses' body. Also, it takes two angels to do what he originally did in heaven. Also, he had a sanctuary because he was over a group of angels. Also, he was one of few angels named after Elohim, in that his name was Hayliel. Lucifer wasn't his name, that was a description of him, he was a class of angels called the morning stars mentioned in Job and a few other places.
