When God gave Peter the vision of unclean beasts and said "Peter, rise, slay and eat", yes, it spoke to the Holy Ghost also being for the Gentiles, but the word is a double edged sword, so though there's a spiritual meaning to it, there's also a natural meaning. This is why when the apostles sent Paul to the Gentiles, they told him that the Gentiles didn't have to follow the dietary law, the only things concerning food that the Gentiles were supposed to follow were not to eat blood and things sacrificed to idols, that same vision was on their minds when they gave instructions to Paul.
